In June every year the town of Barnstaple, North Devon hosts the annual Fringe TheatreFest 4 day theatre festival in venues across the town. Since its debut in 2007, this festival has hosted a programme of work which attracts local, national and international performers who bring theatre and performance of all genres and styles. Fringe TheatreFest is a highly-respected, well-attended and much-loved festival which is open to all and has made theatre in North Devon far more accessible for anyone who wants to get involved.
With Fringe TheatreFest being cancelled this year, I held a number of interviews with a range of people to discuss how they first got involved, what the festival means to them and to look ahead to the future of the festival which has done so much to promote and develop the small scale theatre culture in North Devon.
